Wanna See Something Stupid?

Let's watch two surfers have a fight. Frankly, this is just dumb. Click here. What gets me is that it keeps escalating. I'm sure this ruined the session of everyone involved and probably put a damper on the moods of everyone else in the water.

But that awesome wave was definitely worth fighting for! I'm sorry, but in defiance of a mutual blogger's previous post on the subject, I gotta say it.... KOOKS!

This one was tame. I found one that was much worse. The only reason I didn't link to it is because I don't want to give the impression that this is entertainment. I just think it's all pretty stupid. Again, I understand why some people feel they have the privilege to act this way, but I don't see how one can actually take it to this point and not feel he's left bad karma all over the place.

I know what you mean, it made uncomfortable to watch it. It seems totally counter-intuitive to the whole surfing experience. The ocean is my place of peace in this world, it's really disturbing when people go at it in the water. Ugh, bad vibes.

surf sister, if you are referring to the other beatdown video of the guy getting face smashed in on the sand, then i know a little more of the story behind it. i have seen that entire vid and that guy paddled out in the middle of some popular north shore guys competition. he just like didnt get it. so the dude attacked him in the water (pipeline) and they duked it out for a while out there, and i MIGHT be able to understand that. but then they attacked him when he got to the beach and that was just retarded. this is why i stay away from areas like california (no offence) and hawaii. no sense in fighting for waves, and have all these super cool surf gangs and crews. thats like 3rd grade we control the monkey bars.

Yeah, Dave, after I watched the other video a few times I realized the guy doing the beating was Kala Alexander. So I was sure there was more to it than we saw . . . but still. Now that you tell me he'd already dealt with the guy in the water, I'm even more horrified that they beat his ass on the beach later.

Hi surfsister!

I can't believe that video! As mentioned by others, there is no place for that stuff in surfing. What blew me away was when they reached the beach and here's some guy in the foreground, looks like an adult to me, just watching. What transpired is unacceptable behavior in our society and nowadays people like that get booted from the water by the law and cannot surf at that spot for a number of years. I don't care where you are, California, Hawaii or Alaska for that matter. On Kauai, some guy got sued last month and is now banished from surfing by the courts, something I know happened up Ventura way a number of years ago also.

Hi, Puttzle! I've never seen a fight in the water, but it's mainly because I wasn't paying attention. I'm no pacifist who's going to walk away from someone who attacks me so I'm not trying to sound holier than thou. Still, it irks me that people let it escalate to this level. The only person I can think of who should be kicking ass in the water right now is Tamayo Perry (who ended up with 50 stitches cos some guy got scared and ditched his shortboard right into Tamayo's head). Tamayo, I won't say a word when you find that guy. But everyone else needs to chill.
